2016 Cowhorn Grenache 6, 92 Points, $45

From Demeter-certified vines, the 2016 Grenache 6 has a medium ruby color and loads of aromas: roasted cranberries, red berry jam and touches of black fruits accented by peppercorn, powdered sugar, olive, saline, charcuterie and dried flowers with an earthy undercurrent. The medium-bodied palate has a silky texture and gregarious, perfumed fruits, framed by chewy tannins and great freshness and finishing long and flavorful. Yum!

2015 Cowhorn Sentience Syrah, 91 Points, $55

Despite this wine being tasty, it’s also worth noting that it comes from Demeter-certified vines and responsible farming practices, including, as listed on the bottle, a staff “employed 52 weeks a year with health benefits.” Medium to deep ruby-purple in color, the 2015 Syrah Sentience has a lovely nose of violets, warm blackberries, crushed black cherries, dried savory herbs, roasted coffee, olive and meaty hints. The palate is medium to full-bodied with intense, well-defined fruit flavors, a ripe, grainy frame and great freshness, finishing long and nuanced.

2017 Cowhorn Reserve Viognier, 91 Points, $50

The 2017 Viognier Reserve comes from Demeter-certified biodynamic vines. It has a gregarious nose of quince paste, candied peaches, honeycomb and honeysuckle with notes of crushed almonds and hay. The full-bodied palate is rounded and classically oily in texture, with great intensity and freshness and a very long, layered finish. Yum!

2014 Cowhorn Reserve Syrah, 90 Points, $75

The 2014 Syrah Reserve comes from Cowhorn’s estate vines, which are Demeter certified. Medium to deep ruby-purple, it’s scented of wild blackberries and black currants with touches of blue fruits and accents of loamy earth, olive, peppercorn and violet. The medium to full-bodied palate is well-restrained and fresh, with a chewy frame and long, nuanced finish.
